To our friends and family, As you know our son, Lucca, has Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. The condition is primarily caused by a deletion of the 22nd chromosome. It is a very rare disorder and less than 600 people in the world have been diagnosed with this condition. It has been recently recognized as a genetic cause of autism and there is a "buzz" among researchers right now about kids like Lucca. The Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation ("PMSF") is a support group for those impacted by the syndrome and we are members. PMSF is raising money that will go towards many areas of need including research, conference costs, grant writing, administration and support for our families.
